Are there any laws agins shipping a compound bow across state lines?

brad asked:

I left my bow in kansas, thinking there would be nowhere to shoot in san fransisco. I found a great target course and now i want my bow. It would be shipped without arrows and unstrung. Would i have to fill out a permit? Or get a licence for it? Do compound bows have to be licenced in california?

No there are no laws that I know of. You can mail order bows and they will be shipped to your door by UPS (I did that last year) so you should be able to do the same with a bow you already own.

Shouldn’t be. A bow can’t “go off” like ammunition can.

It isn’t a firearm, so no license is needed — as long as it is rendered “inoperative”, as it will be by being unstrung. You can even have your arrows shipped out to you.

Just to be on the “safe side of the Law”, arrange to have your bow and arrows delivered to your (new) archery shop. It’ll save you some time when (if) you find they have been damaged in transit….
