Good Beginner Archer/Hunting bow?

Tim Dew asked:

I’m an 18 year old male, 6’4″ with an athletic build, looking to buy my first bow that I will use for both recreation and maybe a little hunting. I’m looking for a compound bow and price isn’t really an issue. I was hoping some one could tell me what bow would be best for a beginner that I can use to hunt and practice with.
Thanks for your help.

best to look up an archery dealer, and let them help you out.
also, ask them about an archery club in your area. they should
know a member of the club and a phone number for you to contact
the club. members of archery clubs have bows to sell, and are always
ready to help anyone getting into archery. and anyone getting into
archery should check out local archery clubs in their area. and if
you decide to join one, they are pretty cheap to join.
you can find some archery clubs listed in phone books.
but if can not find in book, call all the archery dealers and ask them
    about the clubs.

If money is no object get the bow that sooner or later you will own. Do it now and get the best to start with. Here are the top 3 bows in the nation, as far as sales and customer satisfaction is concerned. There is much debate on which of these 3 is the best, but you would be happy with any one of them. This is their latest ranking
1- Hoyt Alpha Max- considered by many experts to be the best hunting bow on the market
    2- Matthews Z7
    3- Bowtech Admiral

The initial investment in archery is fairly high- to get the bow and the accessories you need will run you in the neighborhood of $1200 and better. Archery is a great sport to get into.I would also suggest you join a club that will have a shooting range available to you when you wish to practice, tune your equipment , participate in tournaments etc, This will give you access to not only spot targets but a 3-D range of targets such as deer, bear, turkey, elk, coyote, antelope, etc. These 3-D targets are placed in woods you will range through and shoot the different targets. It will almost be like you were actually hunting and taking the shots at wild game.

It will also enable you to ask questions, get advice and help from an extremely knowledgeable group of good, decent people. I’m glad to see you getting into archery. While other forms of hunting is losing membership yearly, bowhunting is growing by leaps and bounds. Good luck!

If price isn’t too much of an issue, then I think that some of the Ben Pearson compounds look promising.
