You need to be 18 to buy a rifle or shotgun; and you need to be 21 to buy a handgun.
18 long 21 for pistol

Federal law: 18 for shotguns/rifles and their ammo
21 for handguns and their ammo
18 for a long gun and 21 for hand gun
same age listed above for ammo for either.
make sure if you are planning on hunting that you go through a hunters safety course if you haven’t already anyone born after 1961 has to have proof of a hunters safety course to get a license.
