You killed them all, that’s why you can’t find any more.*

Get real….How you can even begin to think of hunting with a knife is just plane ludicrous. The only reason for doing it would be survival and at that you’d be better off setting snares.

Are you serious? A knife…Have you ever had a pig, even a small one come at you. I shot one with a 7mag and walked up to what I thought was a dead pig. It jumped up and took a chunk out of my calf. I still have the scar and the hunting pants with the hole in calf. After several stitches and a very bad infection I recovered nearly a month later. And you want to go after them with a knife. I hope you are close to civilization when that takes place.

Well phelpz, I don’t know how you aussies do it but here in Texas we hunt the hogs with dogs and knifes. I have several dogs that I use, I made chest protectors for them, and I have a custom made 12 inch long bladed knife. The chest protectors do two things, one they keep thorns and mesquite branches from cutting the dogs and second they protect the chest and forward rib area of my dogs from a hog swiping them with a tusk. I run between 6 and 9 dogs on a hunt, if we’re going to be out more than 6 hours I’ll bring a second group and rotate the packs.
The knife I use is made for my hand, is very heavy so that it can penetrate and can be twisted with out breaking the blade. The blade is 12 inches long, it has a full hand guard, and the handle is covered in a medium soft unrethane so it won’t slip if my hands are sweaty or bloody. I also have a spear that I use for hunting hogs as well.
The basic idea is to find the feral hogs, let the dogs run it and corner it. The knife man makes his approach from the rear at a 45 degree angle. The dogs keep the hog busy and I reach in with the knife and slam it as hard as possible behind the last rib and angle it forward then down to get the heart and lung. I twist it as I pull back and then be ready to JUMP. Most hogs will turn and you have to have your other hand ready to shove it on the shoulder as you move back. I’ve been knocked down a couple of times but the dogs will take over and charge the hog. Thats the main reason I now have the spear to use. Good luck and good hunting.

Hunting is not a sport because in a sporting event, both sides have a chance to win.

if you are going to hunt pigs you will need bigger dogs little cow dogs really are not what you would call good for this kind of herding. if you try to use them you will not have dogs for very long, take the advise form the old boy from texas that is the proper way to hunt pigs with a knife and be ready to see your dogs bleed it will happen and if that is a problem then i suggest that you go back to the bow.

I can’t figure out what you’re saying. Something about pigs hunting rabbits with a staff?
