This question is so hard to answer…. hm…
Sounds like your dad needs to take some more practice before taking such a long shot. No offense to him or you. But I’ve had to dispatch countless animals with wounds inflicted by poor shots, archery and fire arms.
I hope that is the first time, and last time he attempts to shoot at any deer at that distance, last day, or no last day.* 40 to 45 yards is Reasonable, but the closer the better.* It was, and is a very bad idea to do what he did.*
cool story but that isnt smart to take a shot your not comfortable with.

Sorry, but your dad needs to get some more shooting experience under his belt.
Your dad is a terrible example for you and all other hunters. There are very few people on the planet who could make that shot with any certainty. Apparently he isn’t one of them. I also don’t believe your story, ahah. But, if it really did happen, I cannot imagine why you would be proud of that nonsense. You are the reason people are against hunting.
